Aiming to create a clinic that is open to the town and easy to enter, the lighting plan was designed so that the atmosphere inside the clinic could be gently perceived from outside, with interior light softly extending outward.
Inside the clinic, where the upper and lower floors are connected through an atrium, the pendant lights floating in the void were planned as a visual focal point. The presence of light creates a soft connection between the two floors, allowing the atmosphere of each level and the spatial depth of the interior to be felt in a calm and subtle way.
The interior lighting avoids point-source downlights as much as possible. Instead, brightness is secured indirectly by illuminating surfaces such as walls and ceilings. By allowing light to spread softly throughout the space, the lighting harmonizes with natural light during the day and creates an environment gently enveloped in soft light at night.
For the gate-like enclosure composed of cedar boards, wall washers were combined with spotlights mounted along the sides of the beams to illuminate the ceiling surface. By composing the light as a luminous surface, the wood grain and depth of the cedar boards emerge gently at night. As the interior light softly seeps outward, the clinic’s presence and the depth of the interior are conveyed even at night, creating a transparent and welcoming appearance.
